Yesterday marked the 60th day of my 60-day Mindset Reset. It feels good to say I accomplished it without a single missed step. I followed a meal plan, did some type of 60-minute escalated heart rate activity, an additional strenuous activity 60 times, hit 6,000 steps or more, read 6 books and maintained a handwritten journal daily.
Surprisingly what I thought would be the hardest wasn’t and what I thought would be the easiest, on many days took real focus. Starting with the latter, reading 6 books took purposeful focus daily, but something I enjoyed and ended up being the easiest. The list below was what I chose to read, the length in pages and the date I finished. In all, the books add up to 1,437 pages at an average daily reading of 24 pages per day.
The 4 Disciplines of Execution – 293 pages, finished 1/16
Tuesdays with Morrie – 192 pages, finished 1/22
The High 5 Habit – 237 pages, finished 1/27
Will – 417 pages, finished 2/9
It’s Not About the Coffee – 170 pages, finished 2/18
Success Secrets of the World’s Most Cynical Man – 128 pages, finished 2/26
The item that I struggled to hit on many days was the 6,000 steps. I know what you’re thinking, the suggested standard is 10,000 steps and I struggled to hit 6,000…how is that? For many of us that work a desk job, when you track your steps, you’ll find the number way lower than you would have guessed. Walking to the car, from the car to the office, little walking throughout the day then back to the car and home. It really does not amount to much unless you make a point to take a walk sometime during the day. Now on the weekends, it was normal to be 10,000 plus.
In conclusion, it all really boils down to being purposeful with your time and what you do with it. Its easy to push something off and many times you wont even feel bad about it. However, it is much more rewarding and uplifting when you hit the target. Knowing that, why would anyone not be purposeful with their time. Well, it’s just easier to stay with what is comfortable and comfort is the killer of all progress.
In the end, when completing my Mindset Reset program, I have confirmed the same result found when completing 75 Hard last year. When you put your focus on completing something, purposefully making it a priority in your scheduled you can really accomplish anything.
Now I challenge you to ask yourself, what would happen to your daily step count if you made it a focused priority to take a walk sometime during your day?
